Florida Department of Education recognizes student craftsmanship and technical excellence in statewide competition honoring America’s 250th anniversary
Lively Technical College has been recognized by the Florida Department of Education as a Commissioner’s Choice Award winner in the 2026 Statewide Welding & Fabrication Challenge, a statewide competition celebrating America’s upcoming 250th anniversary, showcasing the skill and craftsmanship of students in career and technical education programs across Florida.
The challenge invited students from public secondary schools, technical colleges, and Florida College System institutions to design and create original metalwork pieces inspired by the 250th anniversary of the United States. Out of 31 submissions statewide, Lively Technical College was selected as one of three institutions to receive the prestigious Commissioner’s Choice Award for its outstanding craftsmanship, creativity, and technical execution.
“We are incredibly proud of our students and instructors for earning this recognition on a statewide level,” said BJ Van Camp, Director of Lively. “This award reflects the dedication, technical skill, and hands-on learning opportunities that prepare our students for successful careers in high-demand industries while showcasing the exceptional talent being developed here at Lively Technical College.”
The Statewide Welding & Fabrication Challenge was organized by the Florida Department of Education to highlight workforce education programs and recognize students developing technical skills that directly support Florida’s growing workforce needs. Winning projects were selected through a review process led by state education officials and industry professionals.
This recognition further highlights Lively Technical College’s commitment to providing students with real-world training opportunities that build industry-ready skills while strengthening the future workforce in the local community and throughout Florida.
