Program Content / Objectives Medical coding is the process of taking a written diagnosis or operative procedure and assigning numbers used for billing and statistics. This program is designed to prepare students for employment in a variety of health care settings as an entry level coder, coding technician, coding clerk, or medical coder/biller. This course is part of a new Florida program where students earn an Applied Technical Diploma (ATD) which guarantees the transfer of credit hours toward an Associate of Science Degree in health information management or office systems technology-Medical office systems specialization at a community college. Students are part of a comprehensive competency based/individualized type of instruction. The course includes a 120 hour externship in community physician offices, hospitals, insurance/billing companies and outpatient facilities. Requirements - A criminal background check and drug screening is required (drug screening will be performed randomly). |
