Program Content / Objectives

The Computer Systems Technology program is designed to provide students the opportunity to learn skills related to the operation, configuration, troubleshooting and repair of PC compatible computers and network operating systems. Skills are practiced on up-to-date equipment and software.

The course incorporates a variety of instructional methods including lecture, labs and computer-based instruction. Emphasis is place on practical experiences through live work and internships with local businesses.

  • Install, configure and upgrade personal computers and peripherals.
  • Follow basic procedures for computer assembly and disassembly.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot computer problems and system malfunctions.
  • Apply knowledge of preventive maintenance precaution and procedures.
  • Set up computer networks.

 

Students who complete the program are prepared to take the A+ certification exams. Graduates are awarded a certificate for 1650 hours of instruction in Computer Electronics and are qualified to obtain an entry-level position in the field of Information System Technician, Computer Service Technician, or related occupations.

Specific Program Entrance Requirements - After the TABE scores are received, the student should interview with the program instructor in order to assess his or her suitability for the program. There are no prerequisite courses for the Computer Systems Technology Program.
