Program Content / Objectives

This program is designed to prepare a person for initial employment as a Carpenter, rough carpenter, form builder, or maintenance carpenter or to provide supplemental training for a person previously or currently employed in these occupations. It may also serve as pre-apprenticeship or apprenticeship related instruction.

The content includes, but is not limited to; communication skills; leadership skills; human relations; safe and efficient work practices; basic trade skills; and laying out, repairing, and fabricating and erecting residential wooden structures and fixtures using hand tools and power tools.

Carpentry shop or laboratory activities are an integral part of this program and include selection, use, and care of tools and equipment; selection of materials; estimating and blueprint reading to construct or repair common systems of residential and commercial framing and concrete form building.
