Program Content / Objectives

This program includes a combination of theory and laboratory instruction in relational database. Structured Query Language (SQL) and object oriented programming. Virtually all activities are hands-on.

  • Microsoft Access 2000
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000

Object oriented programming languages offered are:

  • C++
  • Java 2
  • Visual Basic 6.0
  • Geodatabase and GIS (including ArcView 8.X)

(By request, mainframe programming with COBOL, using sequential, VSAM files is also offered).

Students learn to use Windows XP (for personal computers) and ISPF/TSO command processor (for IBM OS390 mainframe computers). This curriculum is designed to prepare fully qualified entry level programmers.

Students learn to convert business and technical problems to computer processible form, and to encode, compile, debug and execute business and data management computer programs.

Specific Program Entrance Requirements - Students should possess strong language skills, including reading and comprehension, as well as a strong background in basic mathematics and mathematical reasoning. Students must be able to use logic in mathematical problem solving. The ability to use logical thinking in critical to successful completion.
